Search Help - Finding a Case with Its Citation

The FIND button allows you to retrieve the text of a case, a case brief, or a QuickCITE™ record without selecting a database or running a search. To use the FIND button you must know the citation of the case.

Format for Entering Citations

QUICKRULES

  • Do not include the case name.
  • Type the citation for the case. (Please see Format for Entering Citations.)
  • Include the year if it is essential to the citation. (If the year is enclosed in square brackets it is essential to the citation.)
  • Spacing and punctuation are generally optional.

Format For Entering Citations

When using the FIND button, you may type the citation with or without its normal spacing or punctuation. Include the abbreviation for the volume number (e.g., 3d, 4th).

Example One To retrieve:
Type any of:
39 D.L.R. (4th) 595
39 d.l.r. (4th) 595
39 dlr 4th 595
39dlr4th595
Example Two To retrieve:
Type any of:
[1997] S.C.J. No. 108
[1997] s.c.j. no 108
1997 scj 108
1997scj108
