QUICKTIP You can retrieve a statute without running a search:

  1. Select the List of Act Titles database for the jurisdiction.
  2. Click the jump marker that corresponds with the first letter of the act title.
  3. Click the jump marker that corresponds with the act.

QUICKRULES

  • Begin your search with the restriction @1. The @1 instructs Quicklaw to search only in the Title field.
  • Follow the @1 with your search terms with proximity connectors between them.
  • Choose the most unique words from the title of the statute as your search terms.

Examples

Example One Search for the Alberta Adult Adoption Act.
  Database: RSAT (Revised Statutes of Alberta)
Search: @1 adult /1 adoption
Example Two Search for the Export Act.
  Database: RSCT (Revised Statutes of Canada)
Search: @1 export /1 act
  Note: Include the word "act" in this search to avoid retrieving the Cultural Property Export and Import Act, the Export and Import Act, and the Export Development Act.
