Training Information
Level I, Level
II, and specialized, Quicklaw
and LexisNexis® training
sessions are offered free to all customers. Sessions are scheduled
weekly in nine cities in Canada where LexisNexis Canada has its
own training facilities, and are offered regularly in other cities.
Private in-house sessions also can be arranged.

Please visit the LexisNexis
Canada training schedule to view upcoming schedules and register
for training. To discuss your training requirements, please contact
Customer Service. LexisNexis Canada trainers will work with
organizations to customize a training session.
Quicklaw Sessions
Quicklaw sessions focus on one of: 1) the Web
Browser Interface (WBI), available at the Quicklaw
sign on page; 2) the web-style QUICKLINK™ Browser Interface
(QBI), included with the QUICKLINK
PRO™ software; or the original Classic Interface,
also provided with QUICKLINK PRO. Sessions include an overview
of the QuickFIND™
desktop productivity tool.
LexisNexis
Sessions
LexisNexis training sessions include: 1) U.S.
legal research sessions on the lexis.com® interface
and 2) news and business research sessions on the nexis.com®
and lexis.com interfaces.

Level I Sessions
Quicklaw: This session, intended
for new Quicklaw users, focuses on the fundamentals of searching.
Topics include searching by case name and citation, using QuickFIND,
searching for statutes, and using the QuickCITE™
case citator.
LexisNexis at lexis.com (U.S.
legal research): Participants learn the basic skills
needed to conduct effective online searches on LexisNexis at lexis.com.
The session covers commonly used LexisNexis sources, basic search
logic, browsing documents, printing and downloading, and services
for retrieving documents from citations.
LexisNexis at nexis.com or
lexis.com (news, company, and financial research):
This session provides an introduction to researching general news,
business, and company information. Participants learn the basic
skills needed to conduct effective online searches. The session
covers commonly used sources, basic search logic, browsing documents,
and printing and downloading.

Level II Sessions
Quicklaw: This session is for
experienced Quicklaw users and covers advanced searching. Topics
include Boolean searching, Point-in-Time statutes, searching for
statutes judicially considered, source information, and current
awareness services.
LexisNexis at lexis.com (U.S.
legal research): This session is designed for experienced
users of LexisNexis at lexis.com who wish to learn advanced
techniques. Topics include segment searching, advanced connectors,
and LexisNexis SmartIndexing Technology™, which works behind
the scenes to deliver relevant and precise search results. Cost-effective
techniques will also be demonstrated.

Specialized
Sessions
Quicklaw Statutes, Regulations, and
Bills: Participants learn about the Quicklaw collection
of federal and provincial statutory materials, including Point-in-Time
statutes collections, which provide provisions in effect on a
specified date. The session includes instructions on how to search
for an entire act, a section of an act, an act’s history,
statutes judicially considered, regulations, and bills.
Quicklaw Topical Sessions:
These sessions, designed for experienced Quicklaw users, focus
on a specific practice area. Sessions include a review of the
QBI and WBI and customized examples.
Advanced Quicklaw Training for Librarians:
Designed specifically for librarians, these advanced sessions
give information professionals a chance to meet with a Quicklaw
representative to discuss new sources and features. Topics vary
from month to month and may include the expanding Quicklaw statutes
and regulations collection, the launch of new software, and more.
Topical Sessions on LexisNexis at lexis.com:
These sessions provide an advanced look at LexisNexis at lexis.com
with focus on a specific practice area. Participants learn the
skills needed to conduct effective searches. Topics include sources
for the practice area, basic search logic, browsing documents,
printing and downloading, and services for retrieving documents
using citations or party names.
